Redwood Stone is a second generation family business now jointly owned and managed by brothers Martin and Tim Redwood. The company is based in the beautiful south west of England in the small Cathedral City of Wells manufacturing classical ornamental stonework and importing associated garden products. In fact it was the stonemasonry traditions surrounding the Cathedral and its restoration that were an inspiration for the business from the outset and continue to supply both the skilled craftsmen and traditional techniques used today. |

The business was started in the late sixties by Martin and Tim's late father, Ken Redwood, gradually flourishing in line with the emerging garden centre trade in the UK. In those early days Ken's Land Rover laden with stone was a familiar site the length and breadth of the country. As business picked up he added a trailer on the back which increased the amount he could deliver but added to the journey time - the trip to Hayes Garden Centre in Ambleside took 12 hours. |

When Martin joined the company taking over production in the tiny North Road yard, and then Tim relieving Ken of the driving duties, a force to be reckoned with began to emerge. In the late eighties the company grew rapidly with Martin taking over organising the distribution in addition to the production and Tim moving on to design, sales and marketing. During this period the employees who are now the backbone of the company all came on board, brothers Andy and Steve Slight (Andy as yard foreman and Steve in the mould shop). |

In the early eighties Redwood's launched Kingfisher Stone which quickly established itself as the leading garden centre stoneware range and gradually moved Redwood Stone more up market. During all this time Redwood's were purely a trade based business, but at the end of the decade it became clear that the up market products needed to establish a brand image. |
