Chelsea Flower Show
2003

Chris's ' Room for Wildlife' garden showed that a garden which truly caters for wildlife can be exciting and practical. The ruins of a once grand house (something of a Redwood speciality!) made a dramatic backdrop for buddleja, sempervivum and ivy leafed toadflax, mosses, violas and meadow plants. Various Reclamation Stone features were cleverly used to set the scene.

We just managed to carve and mould our new fireplace head in time for Chris to use it at Chelsea. The head uses Secret Door jambs to form the Manor Fire Surround and when raised higher will also become the Chapter House Door (you remember, the one I bumped my head on). The lovely distressed, textured finish makes the Fire Surround look as if it has just been removed from a mediaeval manor house.

One clever little touch was to use the Arched Window Surround recently made for the new Orangery at the Charlton House Hotel, Nr. Bath as cellar windows. Complete with rusty bars and water flowing through they were one of the delightful details on Chris's garden. It's always fun to see how many new and different ways our stonework can be used.
